SHAPESCAPER Steel ring planters are versatile, durable and easily installed landscaping elements that can enhance various outdoor spaces. Made in Australia from 2.0mm thick BlueScope Steel SHAPESCAPER offers over 30 different sizes of stock rings in either a “weathering” corten style Redcor or Galvabond finish.

Rings are supplied as either open or closed. Closed rings are supplied fully riveted, ready for installation while open rings are suitable for installation around existing trees. Open rings simply require fitting rivets in place to close the ring. Please note larger diameter rings are often supplied “open” to allow for easy transport and handling.

Closing SHAPESCAPER rings feature pre-drilled holes and pre-fixed connector plates that make alignment and closure quick and easy using the supplied rivets.

SHAPESCAPER planter rings are available in eight profile heights at 100mm, 150mm, 185mm, 230mm, 290mm, 390mm, 590mm, 800mm.

Choosing a finish

  • Redcor — weathering steel that develops a rich rust-brown patina over time — the natural, architectural look shown in the photos above.
  • Galvabond — hot-dip galvanised steel with a bright silver-grey zinc finish — clean, contemporary and hard-wearing.
  • ZAM — a zinc-aluminium-magnesium alloy coating in matte grey — the highest corrosion resistance in the range, ideal for coastal or high-exposure sites.

Benefits & Features

  • Effortless Installation: With a wide range of stock ring sizes and our custom rolling service for non-standard sizes, designing your perfect garden planter ring layout is now easier than ever. The simple pre-drilled design enables quick installation, even for large-scale projects.

  • No Maintenance:Weathering steel planters are easy to clean and maintain, even deep abrasions of the surface patina will reform a protective coating ensuring they remain in excellent condition for years to come. The smooth surface of the steel makes it easy to wash away dirt and debris, while the sturdy construction means they require minimal upkeep.

  • Durable Material:Made from high-quality Australian 2.0mm Bluescope Steel in either a Redcor weathering steel or Galvabond the ring planters are built to withstand harsh weather conditions. The robust nature of steel ensures that SHAPESCAPER ring planters endure the test of time, and are structurally guaranteed for 10 years.

  • Robust Construction:Precision engineering ensures longevity in outdoor settings, making them a cost-effective choice for both residential and commercial landscaping projects. Steel rings when emptied of soil can be re-positioned or reconfigured as garden needs change over time, providing flexibility in landscape design.

  • Custom rings:Rings of specific diameters* can be custom ordered, if the circumference a custom ring is kept to multiples of either 2400mm or 1800mm off cut waste will be minimized. Please note custom rings are rolled in arcs of equal length to add symmetry and aesthetic appeal. Custom fabrication charges are made per cut and roll for each length on top of the material cost of each length used. * Small diameters (less than 500mm) are hard to achieve in taller profiles.

  • Large Diameter Rings: While SHAPESCAPER steel rings can be custom machine rolled to larger diameters if required, large diameter rings can also formed onsite by hand. This technique is usually limited to lower profiles using three or more 2400mm lengths, giving diameters of over 2292 mm. If making rings from more than five lengths (larger than 12m circumference, or 3.82m diameter), a ring can be made on site by simply joining the lengths and pulling them around to form a circle. Doing it this way you will definitely need to put a centre post in the centre of the circle and mark the perimeter to make sure it’s round. This will work with any profile at that curvature. For large rings we certainly recommend using stakes to keep the shape, 3 per length is generally sufficient.

Design Ideas

Modern Minimalism: The clean lines and rustic finish of the ring planters easily complement contemporary styling introducing a warm and relaxed element to the design.

Reclaimed Chic: Combine SHAPESCAPER steel ring planters with rustic-style decor, for example reclaimed wood and stone.

Use textural plants: Choose plants with interesting textures that complement the rustic look of the steel ring planters. Ornamental grasses and mosses can add softness and contrast to the hard lines sometimes found in landscape designs.

Incorporate natural stone: Surround your steel planters with natural stone elements like river rocks, pebbles, or larger boulders. This combination of materials creates a harmonious balance between industrial and natural aesthetics.

Create levels: Use the different profile heights available throughout the SHAPESCAPER range to build layers and establish different levels in your design.

Green Oasis: Create a lush, green oasis by grouping several steel planter rings together. Mix and match different plant species to add variety and texture, transforming your space into a vibrant garden retreat.
